Lung Cancer

|
Primary carcinoma of the lung is the leading cause of cancer death worldwide. There are 111,000 new cases among men and 86,500 new cases among women every year in North America. The 5-year survival rate is less than 15%, a dismal outcome that is partially the result of inadequate screening techniques. The direct costs of lung cancer in North America are almost $6 billion annually, although early detection would reduce the total cost of treatment by more than two-thirds. Breath analysis is ideally suited for primary screening, enabling earlier treatment, because it is safe, non-invasive and cost-effective. Thus, a breath test could help improve clinical outcomes while reducing the staggering economic burden of treating lung cancer detected at a late stage. Picomole’s breath analysis technology can detect more than 97% of the breath biomarkers associated with lung cancer that have been reported and independently validated in the peer-reviewed scientific literature. |
